Carpet Shampooing

Carpet shampooing is one of the most traditional was of cleaning a carpet or rug. The technique can be used by amateurs as well as professionals. A carpet hair shampoos is first applied even across the carpet. The foamy solution complexes with the dirt and is allowed to dry before being removed. While drying, the dirt-foam complex tends to separate out from the carpet, which will make for easier removal.

In the second stage, a special carpet pressure vacuum removes the shampoo dirt mixture. When vacuuming up the dried shampoo, the operator must be sure to do a throough job as residual shampoo left in the carpet will damage the fibres over time, taking away from their soft natural appearance.

Hot Water Extraction

Hot water extraction, commonly known as steam cleaning is a powerful method for removing dirt and grime from your carpet. In this extraction technique,  hot water is forced into your carpet at high pressures and allowed to mix with preapplied cleansing chemicals that have had time to dissolve the carpet dirt and place it into suspension. A super powerful vaccum then sucks up the water and dirt. To enhance the process, the application of cleaning chemicals was preceeded by a thorough profesional vacuuming which removed 99% of dirt particles 1 micron in size or smaller. Consequently, the dirt brought into solution by the cleansing chemicals was residual tiny engrained dirt paticles, frequently clinging to carpet fibres during the professional strength vaccuming.

After applying the cleansing solution, the carpet cleaning team know exactly how long to wait before initiating extraction. During this waiting period they apply heat, aggitation, and then time to give the solution the best chance to leach out all the ingrained dirt and grime

Following hot water extraction,  the professional cleaning company grooms the carpet, giving it its fluffy look, and adds carpet protector as needed. In the final stage the carpet is allowed to dry before anyone can reenter the area and walk on it.

Types of Professional Carpet Cleaning

Regular professional carpet cleaning will extend the life of your carpet and rug, and enhance its beauty for householders and guests, and other users (commercial carpets). When cleaning the carpet, it is important to use detergents that will not damage the carpet, i.e. use eco-friendly detergents, and it is important to folow cleaning with a through rinsing that will remove all the detergent. Bonnet/Pad Cleaning

Bonnet/Pad Cleaning is often referred to as a "dry" carpet cleaning system. For a good explanation of how it works check out this reference. To sumarize, first a detergent solution is thoroughly hand sprayed over the rug, and next the rug is buffed with a pad that absorbs the detergent and dissolved dirt. The absorbent pads are washed and dried between jobs.

The advantages of this type of cleaning are speed and utility as a maintenance clean, and quick drying time for high trafficked areas. As maintenance it is combined with periodic hot water extraction.  The limitations of this type of cleaning are lack of deep clean, and rinsing action available with normal steam clean and shampoo treatments. Also, caution must be employed when using Bonnet/Pad cleaning on a cut pile carpet.
